This program automatically sets your Yahoo! Messenger status to the currently playing song in iTunes.
YahooTunes 1.0 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.3 and higher with Yahoo's official Mac OS X Messenger client. It has only been tested with Yahoo! Messenger 2.5.3.
1.0 (6/22/05):
- Initial release.
What does this program do?
While YahooTunes is running, it checks iTunes for the currently playing song at a specified interval (set in the Preferences window). It then sets Yahoo! Messenger's status to whatever info about the currently playing track that you have specified in the Preferences window.
How do I change the info that is displayed in my status message?
In the Preferences window, you can change the "format string." This string is what you use to specify the information. It uses special placeholders that are replaced with info about the currently playing song. %A stands for the artist of the song, %T is the title of the song, and %L is the name of the album.
Can I mark myself as busy while still allowing my song name to update?
You bet! Just make sure the "Busy" checkbox is checked in the main window. Your status message will have the busy icon next to it.
Do I have to leave the program open for my status to update?
Yes. You can close the main window, though, and the application will stay open, and its icon will be in the Dock.
My Yahoo status won't update. What's wrong?
First make sure YahooTunes is running. If the "Current Status" box still says "YahooTunes is not currently active," then you need to click the Start button. If it is, try clicking Stop and clicking Start again. If that fails, quit Yahoo! Messenger and relaunch it. Sometimes, Messenger begins to ignore messages sent to it to change its status. If that doesn't work, make sure you are using the latest versions of Yahoo! Messenger and iTunes. Note that YahooTunes doesn't update the status if you are playing preview tracks in the iTunes Music Store.
